Mana Pools 'Blue Haze'

Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe, 2016

Mana Pools elephants are well known for their unique ability to stand on their hind legs - a technique that enables them to reach impossibly high branches in search of food. Interestingly, only a couple of Mana Pools elephants demonstrate the behavior that's made them famous. On this morning, Sheri and I were searching for Boswell, perhaps Mana Pools most famous elephant, when we came across this beautiful bull. While not standing on his hind legs, this image in quintessential Mana Pools. A majestic elephant grazing on seemingly out-of-reach vegetation with Mana Pools characteristic 'blue haze' looming in the background. Later that day, we went on to find Boswell and he even stood up briefly on his hind legs - just long enough to raise my camera but not long enough to get the shot.
