Baby Caiman

Ibera Provincial Reserve, Argentina, 2017

A baby caiman resting on her mothers back in Laguna del Ibera. Ibera Provincial Reserve was a pleasant surprise. Teaming with wildlife, we couldn't walk far without stumbling into capybara, marsh deer, caiman, or any number of the 350 bird species that call Ibera's wetlands home. Traveling by boat, we found this baby caiman with her mother in the marsh along Laguna del Ibera. Only three months old, the little caiman looks so tiny and vulnerable (and indeed she is) when set against the dragon-like scales of her protective mom.
