The beautiful varnished wood interior of Iglesia de San Francisco in Castro, Chile. Iglesia de San Francisco is one of 16 Unesco World Heritage designated catholic churches spread across Chiloe Island. We'd heard much hype about Chiloe's churches during our time in Patagonia, so we arrived in Castro excited to see what all the fuss was about. Sadly, we timed our arrival at the height of winter and all but two of the churches were closed to visitors. Fortunately, the two that let us in were stunning and well worth the five hour ferry ride from Chaiten.
