Khwai River

Khwai, Botswana, 2016

We awoke twice before dawn to the sound of lions roaring outside our camp. At first light we found fresh lion tracks marching past our Land Cruiser, which we followed to the Khwai river. I took this photo of a male lion in the warm early morning light, as he patrolled the south bank of the Khwai. Always a good start to a day in the African bush.
