The Amazon

Anavilhanas National Park, Brazil, 2017

A caiman glides through placid waters in Brazil's Amazon.  I took this photo at a floating ranger station on the Rio Negro in Anavilhanas National Park. I think the rangers (and perhaps this Caiman) thought I was crazy as I laid face-down on the ranger stations' floating dock and set my camera only a couple of millimeters above the water's surface to capture this low angle photo. In the harsh mid-day sun, I wasn't aiming for a great photo. Rather, the fun was in getting down to eye level with this caiman as it cruised effortlessly through the Rio Negro's silky smooth waters.
