Driving Ruta 40

Cafayate, Argentina, 2017

Driving Ruta 40 is a rite of passage for anyone traveling overland across Argentina. The north-south road, which runs from the top of Argentina all the way t the bottom is famous for it endlessly beautiful scenery. Until relatively recently, it was an all dirt road which added a sense of adventure to the appeal. These days, ever expanding sections of Ruta 40 are paved. Still, Ruta 40 is picturesque and perhaps the most picturesque section of all is the day-long drive from Cachi to Cafayate. Yet to be paved, it's Ruta 40 at it's most spectacular and well worth the time for anyone traveling across northern Argentina.
