Road to Surama

North-South Road, Guyana, 2017

Driving a potholed road is a bit more interesting when the holes are big enough to eat our car. Guyana's main north-south road isn't good. A dirt road that's riddled with potholes and muddy when wet, it's a minefield that takes 2+ days to drive. We drove over 1,500 kilometers back and forth on this road as we explored the country.  It's a beautiful, albeit taxing, drive through pristine rainforests and open savanna where we camped in jungle alive with howler monkeys, cicadas, and chatty birds.
