El Tatio Geyser shortly after sunrise, Andes Mountains, Chile. Only 79 kms from San Pedro de Atacama, we woke up at 4:30 a.m. to make El Tatio in time for sunrise. To be clear, Maggie's no mountain goat so making the climb up to 4,320 meters (14,173') was a slow business. But alas we made it - just in time. Sunrise is the perfect time to visit as the early morning sun casts El Tatio's steaming geysers in spectacular light.
